Are you interested in the history of your building?
Do you want to know when it was built?
Who lived there?
Perhaps you have noticed these plaques on buildings in Saratoga Springs. They identify the date of a building and the name and possibly the profession of the people for whom it was built. Not only do these plaques commemorate a building, they also acknowledge the stewardship of an owner in preserving and maintaining a building’s historic character.
If you would like your building to be recognized this way, the Foundation’s Historic Plaque Program can help. We have trained volunteers who research the ownership history and suggest wording for your plaque. The information available depends on the building, some have more information while others have less. Each history provides a written narrative, deed chain, City Directory research, maps, and any other available information. Click here to see an example of a history. After your review the history of your building and select the wording for your plaque, the plaque is cast in bronze. The cost of an historic plaque and the house history is $350 for members, $375 for non-members.
A non-refundable $175 research fee due upon receipt of application. Due to numerous applications received recently, please allow 4-6 months for completion of research. Once you have received the research on your building, the remainder is required prior to ordering your bronze cast 7” x 10” oval plaque. Please allow 6-8 weeks for the casting and delivery of your plaque.
