Educational Programs

BREAKFAST & BUILDINGS

“An Early History of Women’s Education in Saratoga Springs” with Matthew Veitch

City Historian, Matthew Veitch, will share the story of the Temple Grove Seminary and the Young Women’s Industrial Club, today Skidmore College. Centered around Spring Street, Union Avenue, and Circular Street, this program will explore the establishment of the educational programs and facilities, and their evolution into a women’s college. Additionally, the program will cover integral figures in both programs’ histories: Charles F. Dowd, the president of Temple Grove, and Lucy Skidmore Scribner, who had a founding role in establishing what would become Skidmore College.

Matthew Veitch is a fifth-generation Saratogian currently serving as the City Historian for Saratoga Springs. He previously served as a County Supervisor for Saratoga Springs from 2008-2025, as well as holding positions with numerous nonprofit boards and committees, including President of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation.

Breakfast & Buildings will start at 9AM at the Saratoga Joinery, 69 Caroline Street. Tickets are $35 and breakfast will be provided. Parking is available along Caroline and Circular streets.

LUNCH & LEARN

“On This Spot: 69 Caroline Street” with Carol Godette

“On This Spot: 69 Caroline Street” with Carol Godette will cover the many incarnations of this 1880s brick duplex. Originally, 69 Caroline Street was a multi-unit apartment building. Over time, it was adapted to serve different community needs as a holistic care center, a boardinghouse, a French restaurant, a medical practice, and the Children’s Museum at Saratoga. After the museum moved to the Saratoga Spa State Park, Saratoga Joinery reimagined the space as the community woodworking shop you see today.

Carol Godette was born and raised in Saratoga Springs. She is co-owner of the local Ben & Jerry’s franchise and was the first recipient of the Saratoga County History award in 2022. She writes a history column entitled “On This Spot” for Simply Saratoga and published a book, On This Spot – Saratoga Springs, in 2024.

Lunch & Learn will start at 12PM at the Saratoga Joinery, 69 Caroline Street. Tickets are $35 and lunch will be provided. Parking is available along Caroline and Circular streets.

Tickets must be purchased in advance by Wednesday, May 6. There are no physical tickets for the programs. Your name will be on a list at the door.

Tickets are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend it is considered a tax-deductible donation.

The 2026 invitation is currently in production, so additional Honorary Committee and Corporate Sponsors will not be able to be included there, but you still have time to be recognized in the Historic Homes Tour program and on this page!

Historic Homes Tour Donation

If you are unable to join us for the events, you can still support the Historic Homes Tour by making a 100% tax-deductible donation here:

The East Side Historic District is well known for having beautiful historic residences built in a diverse range of architectural styles, most notably Greek Revival, Gothic Victorian, Second Empire, Italianate, and Queen Anne styles. After the Foundation was formed in 1977, it sought to add the East Side, among other areas in the city, to the National Register of Historic Places. The Foundation’s application was approved and the East Side Historic District was added to the Register on October 29, 1982.

The Historic Homes Tour, the Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser, helps to support our mission to preserve and enhance the architectural, cultural, and landscaped heritage of our wonderful community.

Click here for tickets for the 2026 Tour!

All ticket sales are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, please consider your purchase a donation to the Foundation.

Thank You to Our 2026 Historic Homes Tour Sponsors!
